Kolkata : The ‘24th Annual Baker's Meet’ was inaugurated by State Minister for Consumer Protection Shrikant Mahato on Sunday at Biswa Bangla Mela premises.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Mahato said, ‘The work of the Consumer Protection Department is to protect the common consumers. The government is always there. Addressing those associated with the bakery industry, he reminded that the industry is facing challenges. One of the reasons for this is that multinational companies are coming in with huge capital. The livelihood of small and small traders is now in crisis.’ The minister advised them to fight in keeping with the situation by thinking about the time.
Ariful Islam, executive officer of the organization, gave the opening speech of the conference. He said, ‘The crisis is concentrated in the bakery industry. The problem is extreme in the increase in the price of raw materials.’
Bakery owner Abdul Motaleb Khan, Animesh Jana, Amitabh Jana, Sheikh Sale Ahmed, Noor Hossain Mallik, Sheikh Abul Zafar, former Indian footballer Nasir Ahmed and others were present in the event.
On this day, in this conference, Professor Prashant Kumar Biswas of Jadavpur University and Sukhendushekhar Jana, the official of Food Processing Department, gave appropriate direction to the members of the organization to face the challenges and move forward in solving the various problems arising in this business.
Over 250 representatives of bakery organizations from different parts of the state, especially from the hills to the Sundarbans, attended this conference. State Minister of Food Processing and Horticulture Arup Roy came to the stage in the second phase of the conference.
He officially inaugurated the commemorative booklet of the conference. He said that the state government is always responsible for these small and small scale industries. He assured that the government will always extend its hand of support to them. President of the organization Bajrangprasad Agarwal gave vote of thanks on the occasion.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented on behalf of the West Bengal Baker’s Association to those who have been associated with the bakery industry for a long time.
