The UFBU has called for two days of nationwide protests and bank strike on March 24 and 25,

Kolkata, 17th March, 2025 : The ‘United Forum of Bank Unions’ organized a press conference at the ‘Ajit Sen Bhavan’ located in Crooked Lane, Kolkata-700069. The United Forum of Bank Unions highlighted various problems in the banking sector at this press conference.

Members of the United Forum of Bank Unions said, “We also oppose the adoption and implementation of various policies by the government or its representative bank management that are considered detrimental to the interests of bank employees and the entire nation.”

The ‘United Forum of Bank Unions’ demands immediate resolution of the following long-unresolved demands:

Adequate recruitment in all cadres, regularize all temporary employees 

• Implementation of 5 Day work week in Banking Industry 

• Immediate withdrawal of the recent DFS directives on performance review and PLI, which threaten job security, create division and discrimination amongst employees and officers, violate the 8th Joint Note, and undermine PSB’s autonomy 

Safety of Bank Officers/ Staff against the assault/ abuses by unruly banking public. 

Fill up the post of Workmen/ Officer Directors in PSBs. 

• Resolution of residual issues pending with IBA 

• Amend Gratuity Act to increase the ceiling to Rs 25 lacs on the lines of Scheme for government employees along with exemption from income tax 

• Do not recover income tax on staff welfare benefits given to employees and officers on concessional terms. Managements to bear the same. 

• Maintain a minimum of 51% of Equity Capital in IDBI Bank by Government 

On behalf of ‘UFBU’, General Secretary of ‘SBI Officer’s Association’, Shubhajyoti Chattopadhyay said, ‘After peaceful and bilateral talks failed to resolve the issues, ‘UFBU’ is calling for a nationwide movement including a strike on 24th and 25th March 2025.’.

Along with this, ‘UFBU’ is seeking public support for the movement and demands.

United Forum of Bank Unions is the apex trade union forum consisting of 9 Bank Unions viz. AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO representing nearly one million bank employees and officers working in the various Banks.
