Kolkata, August 12, 2026: Director Somnath Sen is set to present another Bengali film, titled ‘Pakhir Basa’. The film primarily revolves around the story of Monomoy and Parama. Monomoy is a retired private-sector employee; a widower, he lives with his only son, Hridoy, and daughter-in-law, Jui. Yet, she has to endure various forms of taunts and humiliation from her son and daughter-in-law every day. In this household, the only person who truly loves Monomoy is her foster son, Gopal. Her son and daughter-in-law cannot stand Gopal, regarding him merely as a servant, which leads to constant discord. Meanwhile, Parama is a widow; she has a son and a daughter, both of whom are married. No one checks on Parama; people visit only when it serves their own interests. Yet, Mallika-di, her domestic helper, constantly looks after her. Parama is educated and beautiful, but deeply lonely. Into this solitary life enters Monomoy, who is also without a partner. A new storm brews and a new story unfolds. Will Monomoy and Parama be able to leave this ‘bird’s nest’ behind and build a home together elsewhere?
The film features performances by Papiya Adhikari, Biswajit Chowdhury, Kanyakumari, Mousumi Bhattacharya, Bodhisatwa Majumdar, Santwana Basu, Dipanjan Bhattacharya (Jack), Sharmishtha Mukherjee, Abhiraj and Deb Mondal. Tagore songs have been used in this film, with vocals by Sujoy Bhowmik and Dr. Utsab Das. Chandan Roy Chowdhury composed the background score. Sajal Ghosh wrote the screenplay, and the cinematographer is Tirtha Mitra. Deepak Mondal edited the film. Chandan Dey produced the film under the banner of ‘Srija Films’. Director Somnath Sen himself wrote the story.
