'Mitra Charitable Trust' has started taking great initiatives for the promotion, expansion and development of chess

‘Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha’ (SBDS), the parent body of Chess in West Bengal, is a well known name in the sports field of West Bengal. Since inception, this organization has been engaged in promotion and popularization of the game of Chess as well as social welfare activities. State Chess Association is an affiliated organization under All India Chess Fedaration.

‘Mitra Charitable Trust’ (MCT) led by Sanjoy Kumar Mitra, has extended its support to fill in the gap in this field. The Chess sets and chess clocks to 23 districts, where district chess associations have been formed. ‘Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha’ has joined hands with him to turn his dream into a reality.

It has been decided that this year 1150 chess sets and 10 Chess Clocks for each district. Nearby districts like Kolkata, Howrah, Hoogly, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas will collect these material directly from the organizers. In case of other districts, representatives of SBDS and MCT will go to those places and will distribute the materials to the district representatives. In the first phase of the distribution program, we will visit 5 districts of North Bengal, namely Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar & Cooch Behar from 4th April, 2024.

This activity named ‘Chase Outreach Initiative’ was launched at Kolkata Press Club. In the presence of Grandmaster and Arjuna Award winning Chess player Dibyendu Barua, Asiad gold medalist Card player Pranab Vardhan, Sara Bangla Chess Association Vice President Rajendra Singh and many other dignitaries, sporting goods were handed over to the leaders of several chess organizations in Kolkata and nearby four districts.
