Hiralal Sen is the pioneer of Bengali cinema. So to remember and honor him, awards are given in his name every year. Veteran actor Varun Chanda received the 'Hiralal Sen Memorial Award' this year. The award was given to Varun Chanda for his outstanding performances in various films, especially in Satyajit Ray's films. Devkanya Sen, a member of Hiralal Sen's family (fourth generation) presented the 'Hiralal Sen Memorial Gold Medal' to Varun Chanda. And this award ceremony was organized by 'Acharya Dineshchandra Sen Research Society'.
The award ceremony was held at a theater on Buddhist Temple Road adjacent to the Central Metro Station in Kolkata. Apart from the award recipient Varun Chanda, the event was attended by producer Anjan Bose and others. Varun Chanda, Anjan Bose and many others spoke about Hiralal Sen's contribution to the world of cinema.
Devkanya Sen, a member of Hiralal Sen's family and secretary of ‘Acharya Dineshchandra Sen Research Society’, said that they have been organizing this award ceremony since 1989. Also, 'Hiralal Sen Smriti Swarna Padak' has been awarded to a total of 105 people.
