Talented chess players were welcomed by ‘Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha’. The program was organized at the Saturday Club. The show was titled ‘Shatranj Ke Heroes’. 12 chess players and one woman arbiter were honored in this event.
Also, three personalities who have been working for a long time in promoting the game of chess were felicitated. Among the 12 chess players are five Grandmasters – Sayantan Das, Kaustab Chatterjee, Diptayan Ghosh, Mitrav Guha and female Grandmaster Mary Ann Gomes.
MLA Debashis Kumar, hockey Olympian Gurbux Singh, former footballers Shyam Thapa and Deependu Biswas, former cricketer Sambaran Bandyopadhyay, swimmer Bula Chowdhury, Grandmaster Suryashekhar Ganguly, Sandipon Chanda and women’s grandmaster Nisha Mohta presented the awards to them.
Dibyendu Barua, president of ‘Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha’, said, ‘This is the second time the players have been felicitated. This program is organized to recognize all the chess players of Bengal who have been achieving success at the international and national level throughout the year.’
