Kolkata, 5th March, 2026: The team behind the much-anticipated folklore thriller Charak: Fair of Faith arrived in Kolkata as part of an extensive promotional tour ahead of the film’s nationwide theatrical release on March 6, 2026. The promotional visit created significant excitement among audiences and media, highlighting the film’s deep cultural ties to eastern India’s folklore traditions. Backed by filmmaker Sudipto Sen, widely known for directing the controversial and widely discussed film The Kerala Story, the upcoming project has already generated significant buzz following the release of its gripping trailer. Directed by Shieladitya Moulik, the film explores the haunting folklore surrounding the traditional Charak Festival and delves into the darker realities of blind faith and occult rituals.
The press conference in Kolkata was attended by Sudipto Sen (Producer), Subrat Dutta (Actor), and Bishakh Jyoti (Music Director), who shared insights into the film’s concept, creative process, and the extensive research behind its narrative.
While the team was promoting the film in the city, a protest erupted in the heart of the city where demonstrators blackened the posters of Charak. The protesters objected to the film for showing the negative practices associated with the festival, claiming that it portrays their cultural tradition in a negative light and misrepresents the essence of the celebration, thereby hurting the sentiments of the community.
Given the film’s strong connection to the region’s cultural and spiritual traditions, Kolkata served as a meaningful stop on the promotional circuit. During their visit, the team interacted with local media, digital influencers, and film enthusiasts, discussing the film’s thematic depth and cinematic vision while also highlighting the importance of folklore in shaping the story.
