Ambuja Neotia Group announces 2nd Edition of B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition and launches Prabir Mitra Memorial Award

Kolkata, August 28, 2025 : Ambuja Neotia Group, announced the opening of 2nd Edition of B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition at Kalavaani, Swabhumi, Kolkata. Titled ‘Celebrating the Life and Work of Architect Girish Doshi’, the exhibition is an evocative tribute to the timeless legacy of Balkrishna V. Doshi, India’s first Pritzker Laureate.

This year’s exhibition turns the spotlight on Girish Doshi, one of B.V. Doshi’s closest protégés, whose work reflects restraint, clarity, and deep humanism. Through sketches, models, photographs, and reflective essays, the exhibition explores how his practice emerged not from a pursuit of spectacle, but from a commitment to simplicity, structural integrity, and connected spatial experiences.

As part of the commemorative evening, the Group also announced the institution of Prabir Mitra Memorial Award — an annual recognition in memory of Late Prabir Mitra, a quiet visionary whose wisdom, values, and integrity inspired generations in the field of architecture. The award celebrates the Most Promising Architect, chosen for excellence in design, responsibility in practice, and contribution to society. The inaugural jury for the award features distinguished architects – Partha Ranjan Das, Subir Kumar Basu, Abin Chaudhuri and Vivek Singh Rathore.

The first edition of the award was presented to SQUARE, an architectural and interior design consultancy whose work is deeply rooted in the cultural milieu of the state of West Bengal and Kolkata in particular, while being equally responsive to the trends and demands of the new generation in the global context. Their work incorporates use of traditional art forms in a highly stylized manner, showcasing a harmonious evolution in materiality, graphical quality, and formal balance—culminating in a mature and celebratory expression.

Speaking on the occasion, Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group, said, “Through the B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition and the Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, we aim to celebrate not only great architecture, but also the humane and enduring values that shape the profession — values of integrity, restraint, and purpose.”

The evening brought together architects, cultural thinkers, design enthusiasts, and admirers of the Doshi legacy, uniting them in a shared reflection on architecture as both an art and a responsibility. More than a celebration of individual works, it became a reminder of a way of thinking, building, and living that continues to inspire.

The exhibition will remain open at Kalavaani, Swabhumi, from August 29 to September 14, from Monday to Thursday (4:00 pm – 8:00 pm) and Friday – Sunday (12 noon – 8:00 pm).
