KOLKATA : In a significant step toward women’s empowerment and safety, The Greatest Show on Earth (GSOE), a premium tourism enterprise, has partnered with Gouri, a West Bengal-based NGO focused on women’s rights, to organize a special training initiative titled Shakti Rupen during this year’s Durga Puja celebrations. The program, aimed at empowering women through self-defense training, took place at the Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT) campus.
The Shakti Rupen initiative was designed to provide women from rural areas and the suburbs of South 24 Parganas with essential self-defense techniques, empowering them to protect themselves and build confidence in their ability to fend off attackers. This effort is part of Gouri‘s broader mission to prevent sexual violence against women through awareness programs, male sensitization, research and legislative advocacy.
Dr. Raj Sekhar Aich, the founder of Gouri and an expert in self-defense training, led the workshop. Forty female students from GMIT participated in the session, where they learned modern techniques designed to help women defend themselves in dangerous situations. Dr. Aich’s knowledge and experience made the session particularly impactful, leaving participants with valuable skills and heightened self-confidence.
