Docu-Fiction 'Lights Camera Mega!'

College professor and film-maker Dr. Tanni Chaudhuri launched the poster of her 52-minutes docu-fiction ‘Lights Camera Mega!’ at a cafe in South Kolkata. Apart from Tanni, actress Ananya Chattopadhyay, film-maker Paramita Munshi, writer Amrita Mukhopadhyay and actors of the docu-fiction attended the official poster launch event as guests.

Dr. Tanni’s docu-fiction is about mega serials and acting lives of mega serial actresses. So, attending the poster launch event, director Tanni and the guests each expressed their views by participating in a discussion on the mega serials aired on TV channels and the acting lives of mega serial actresses.

Mega serials aired on television have captivated the audience for years. And many actresses come from different places every day to act in mega serials broadcast on television. Some of them may be established and some may get lost doing some work. Ananya, Amrita, Paramita and Tanni talked about the long struggle of these women’s acting careers.

In fact, this discussion was very relevant because Tanni’s docu-fiction brought up these issues. Tanni wanted to make an informative film about the good and bad aspects of the serial industry while watching TV serials abroad. Professor and director of Rhode Island College in the US, Dr. Tanni Chaudhuri said that this docu-fiction entitled ‘Lights Camera Mega’ is her fifth project.

As the docu-fiction is based on the acting life of the actresses of the mega serial, the docu-fiction is rich in interviews with some of the professionals of the serial industry. But not only the protagonists of the mega serials, also the empowerment and struggles of the side characters are documented in this docu-fiction. In this context, director Tanni Chaudhuri also said that forty percent of ‘Lights Camera Mega!’ is fiction.

Now actors from the LGBTQ community in the serials are also interviewed in this docu-fiction. Not only that, the information about the acting life of women from small towns or villages has also been presented through interviews. Even, this docu-fiction also highlights the makers and producers who cast the actresses in the serial.

The life of an actress is also presented in this docu-fiction like the nine essences of drama.

This documentary is a non-profit research work. Mega serial actresses’ earnings, their powers, their talent, struggles, cooperation or non-cooperation from family members and all the adversities are mainly covered in this docu-fiction.

After screening at Kolkata’s Nandan Theater and SRFTI, the docu-fiction ‘Lights Camera Mega!’ will be sent to various film festivals, said director Tanni Chaudhuri.
