Kolkata, July 02, 2026 : Reinforcing the spirit of service and social responsibility, Lions & Leo District 322B1 successfully organised a Blood Donation Camp under its “We Serve” initiative, dedicated to supporting thalassaemia children and ensuring a steady supply of blood for their treatment. The camp was conducted at the organisation’s Thalassaemia Unit and Blood Centre, where regular blood support is provided to children battling thalassaemia.
The noble initiative marked the beginning of the new service year of Lions Club, with members coming together to donate blood and contribute towards saving precious lives. More than 150 members actively participated in the camp, making it a significant step towards creating awareness about voluntary blood donation and the urgent need for continuous support for thalassaemia patients.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Pankaj Shrivastava, HOD, RN Tagore Hospital International Institute of Cardiac Sciences; Avijit Nandi Majumdar, Editor-in-Chief, ANM News and Chief Executive Officer, ANM Global Media Research; Manju Chamaria, District Governor, Lions International; and Indrani Chowdhary, Cabinet Secretary of the Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Kailash Khandelwal, Chairperson, Blood Centre, said, “Blood donation is one of the most meaningful acts of humanity. Our Thalassaemia Unit has been supporting 156 children who require regular blood transfusions, including 10 children who receive blood support every day due to their condition. For these children, timely availability of blood is not just a medical requirement but a lifeline. Through initiatives like this, we can create a stronger support system, spread awareness, and encourage more people to become regular blood donors.”
The initiative highlighted the importance of community participation, healthcare awareness, and collective efforts in improving the lives of patients dependent on regular transfusions.
