Kolkata, February 01, 2026: The 10th-11th biennial state conference of the Progressive United Engineers Association of West Bengal began at the Nazrul Mancha auditorium. The event was inaugurated by lighting the lamp on the stage by the organization’s Convener Pratap Nayek, President Engineer Subrata Ghosh, Vice President Engineer Ananta Nandi, General Secretary Engineer Anirban Ojha, Advisor Engineer Shibu Biswas and Engineer Debraj Singh Roy.
Rajya Sabha Speaker Biman Banerjee, MLA Debashish Kumar, Ashok Dey, and several distinguished guests and public representatives were present on the stage at the inaugural ceremony. The organization has informed that unit conferences and district conferences have been successfully held in every district of the state since November 2025. Then, on January 30 and 31, the state conference began with a Delegates Conference with district leaders at the Swami Vivekananda Hall at the Moulali Youth Center.
About 2,500 engineer members from various districts of West Bengal are participating in this historic conference. The conference will discuss in detail several important demands of the engineering cadres. Notable among the demands are:
Implementing the promotional ratio of junior engineers from 60:40 to 50:50 as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission, implementing the second part of the recommendations of the Pay Commission in the case of WBSES and WBES, Scientific restructuring in the engineering department instead of unscientific restructuring, priority in PSC recruitment by giving importance to the experience of contractual engineers, Creation of new posts of Assistant Engineer at the block level, introduction of WBHS, LTC and HTC in KMDA offices and abolition of the licensing system for junior engineers in the Public Works Department.
In addition, emphasis has been placed on strengthening coordination between departments on how to complete the state government’s development projects more quickly and cost-effectively.
